Description
The Giardini Fortunati--roughly translating to "lucky gardens"--is a public park located on the eastern side of Madrenice's main island. Bordered by canals on one side and open land on the other, the gardens are accessible to all species inhabiting Madrenice, even mermaids, thanks to the waterways. The winding pathways of the gardens are lined with various flowers and blossoming plants native to Madrenice, but a few exhibits in the northern area of the gardens showcase flowers, trees, and other flora from neighboring cities and countries. In the springtime, the beauty of the Giardini Fortunati is rivaled by few places in Madrenice.
Although much of the government's funding is spent providing for the military, much of the gardens' upkeep is reliant on the work ethic of the gardeners and park attendants. Though they are few in numbers, the garden staff are passionate about greenery and beauty, and do their best to keep this park in decent condition.
Due to the fact that these gardens are open to all species, they have been known as a sort of "truce ground" for species that tend to not interact with each other often, providing Madrenice's inhabitants with an opportunity to learn about other cultures and lifestyles. A couple of the annual festivals of Madrenice take place in these parks, although the clean-up can take anywhere from weeks to months due to the lack of staff.
